Smoothie for Glowing Skin
You are what you eat so the saying goes. The long cold (never ending) winters of Nova Scotia mean I have to rely on my daily smoothie to ensure I am fuelling myself with the nutrients I need.
Frozen fruits and vegetables are a great option to add to your daily elixir, bonus points for organically grown and freshly frozen choices. Eat the rainbow and don’t be afraid to experiment, adding veggies like Kale, Spinach and even cucumbers if your blender can handle them. Our bodies need variety so mix it up and don’t get stuck in a rut.
I like to add adaptogens to my daily mix – Adaptogens are ancient Chinese plants and herbs that help support your body during stress. Generally very safe and well tolerated, they adapt to what your body needs in a gentle supportive way. My favourites are mushrooms and Holy Basil.
In yogic philosophy we look for foods with high “Prana” – life force. Think about which foods your body needs today, how you want to feel – energized, calm, powerful and trust your decisions.
Here is one of my favourite smoothies for energy and glowing skin:
Ginger – I like about a thumb sized amount
Spinach – giant handful
Reishi Mushroom powder – 1 teaspoon
Maca Powder – 1 big teaspoon
Protein Powder – I like Vega or Sun Warrior brands
Fresh Granola, cacao nibs and goji berries sprinkled on top and to add that coveted crunch
